Best Botox Guide: Get The Most Out Of Your Treatment

If you’ve never received Botox injections before then the internet can be a minefield of misinformation! You can just look at comments on articles or Youtube to see that people have a very misinformed view of Botox or any cosmetic treatments.  Here are our best practice tips for getting the most out of your Botox treatment and remaining safe while doing so!

Before Your Treatment

Research Your Clinic

Before even booking your Botox treatment it is important to do your research on the clinic you’ve chosen.

Know the answers to these questions before attending your consultation;

  1. Who is doing the injecting? (it should be a doctor)
  2. Is it their own clinic or are they visiting a salon?
  3. What product are they using- is it actually Botox?
  4. Do they offer reviews on your treatment?

When you have decided where to receive your treatment and have booked your consultation there are a number of things you can do for a better treatment!

On the day before and the day of your treatment avoid alcohol. Alcohol can thin your blood making you more prone to bruising. There is a risk of bruising with any injection but we can try and limit your risk.

Try to avoid blood thinning medications such as aspirin or anti inflammatories as these also increase your risk of bruising.

During Your Treatment

During your consultation be sure to give your doctor any medical history as it may be relevant to the effects of your treatment. It is almost important to include any medication or allergies.

Ask any questions that you are unsure of during the consultation about the treatment, you should never feel pressured to get a treatment on the day.

Your doctor will likely take a few photos of your face to show you exactly where he will be injecting, these may also be used to show you before and afters when your treatment kicks in.

After Your Treatment

Immediately after the treatment, you will be asked to exercise the muscles that have been injected to help the Botox settle. These should be done for about 15 minutes only.

After your treatment it is important to avoid any exercise for the rest of the day, this includes dancing, yoga, cycling etc (anything that works up a sweat). You will be fine to continue with any exercise tomorrow.

  • Have no more than 2 drinks on the day of your treatment.
  • Do not massage or manipulate the area where you were treated.
  • Do not review any facial treatments for a minimum of 14 days. Botox can take 14 days to take full effect and should not be disturbed in that time.

After 14 days a free review may be offered, we recommend you take this if it is your first Botox treatment. Your doctor will assess your treatment and see if extra Botox is needed in any areas. It is always better to add more rather than get too much in the first place! Your doctor may also take another photo to show you the difference in your face and to keep track of your progress throughout your treatments!

If you decide to continue with your Botox treatments then the average is about 3-4 months for repeat treatments, this is, of course, dependant on every individual.
